This all new compact industrial plasma cutting machine from Morgan Rushworth is now installed and ready to demonstrate in our showroom. The new ECP model features a compact yet heavy duty design, industrial control and drive system and the renowned Hypertherm Powermax plasma source.
The vision of Morgan Rushworth is to offer a compact industrial model which fills a place in the market between lightweight entry level machines and more costly high production models. Having a tradition for many years of providing robust industrial machinery, Morgan Rushworth are unwilling to move too far downmarket and have therefore produced a design which brings many production features to a compact design.
So what is different?
Some areas of design can’t be compromised. The accuracy of a plasma cutter depends on the structure of the machine and the quality of the motion system, as well as the plasma source itself. ESA Automotion from Italy provide a CNC control complete with drive system which is fully integrated to the Hypertherm Powermax plasma unit. This together with a robust frame, cutting table and bridge design creates a heavy duty compact model capable of production performance.
Why a compact plasma?
A compact plasma integrates the table, bridge and side rails into one structure which also has provision to store the plasma unit onboard. The benefits of this are rapid set up and commissioning, space saving design and ease of relocation. The ECP model is even supplied with forklift slots for easy handling, should the machine need to be moved around a workshop.
Single gas technology
The Morgan Rushworth ECP Compact CNC Plasma features single gas technology While the powerful ESA 630 control stores all the preset Hypertherm cutting parameters, all settings can be overridden manually so to optimise settings to the current material and cutting conditions. Normally the cutting gas is compressed air although this can be swapped for nitrogen or pre-mixed gas for cutting stainless steel and other materials.
Powermax machine torch
The machines are supplied with a Hypertherm Powermax machine torch with automatic cutting height control, matched to the plasma source, to ensure the best possible cutting is achieved. Hypertherm consumables are technologically advanced with special variants including the Finecut® consumables for very high quality cutting on thinner materials, such as mild steel up to 2mm.
Extraction table
ECP models are supplied as standard with a compartmentalised extraction table; this features a mechanical system for opening and closing the apertures between chambers. This simple robust solution removes the need for pneumatic operation of the aperture doors below the table, resulting in lower maintenance. Optionally, and at no extra cost, the machine can be supplied with a water table which removes the need for a separate extraction unit.
Nesting software
All ECP models are supplied with desktop nesting software which can import and nest profiles from dxf files or from a shape library, while automatically applying leads, part spacing and cut order. The software is very simple to use as it follows an intuitive step by step process. Cutting files and nests can be imported to the machine via a USB stick and be stored locally for repeat cutting.

See the machine in action in the Bison showroom on a variety of materials. You can send us your drawings to assess suitability and see them cut on our machine; contact us here to make arrangements. Compare the results to high definition plasma cutting on our other showroom machines; we currently have both Ajan and Hypertherm XPR300 plasma technology on show.
