The Sterling AX CNC Bandsaw - taking CNC sawing to a new level

The advanced Sterling AX CNC bandsaw is extremely accurate and easy to use with preset cutting parameters allowing any operator to achieve optimum cutting performance. Featuring servo technology in place of traditional hydraulics, as well as precise CNC control of the entire cutting cycle, this machine excels at production cutting of solid bars and precision tubes.
Using the intuitive touch screen control, the operator enters the material properties along with a cutting list and the machine will work out the rest!

Advances in technology
Traditionally automatic bandsaws use hydraulic systems for both the down feed control of the saw frame and the feeding action of the shuttle vice. While this technology is tried and tested, machinery manufacturers are becoming more and more aware of the advantages of fully electrical or hybrid machinery. Typically this type of machinery is more accurate, uses less power, produces less waste and requires less frequent servicing.
An alternative to hydraulic cutting
The Sterling AX model uses a servo drive with a ball screw guide for the movement of the saw frame. Along with this the shuttle vice also uses servo technology. Using this technology in place of traditional hydraulics results in a completely new level of control and improves accuracy by a factor of 10. Where the changes in temperature in hydraulic oil can affect accuracy over a period of time, servo drives maintain their accuracy continuously throughout the day.

Full CNC cutting cycle
Many bandsaws described as CNC actually only control the cutting program rather than the complete cutting cycle; in other words the operator will enter a cutting list consisting of cut lengths and quantities but will still control the feed speed and pressure manually using the hydraulic controls. The CNC control on the Sterling AX models features preset programs for cutting a wide range of material types and profiles; in this case the user will select the material they are cutting as well as entering the cutting list, removing the requirement for specialist knowledge.
Other features of the Sterling AX
As well as the advanced CNC and servo technology, the AX model also features blade deflection compensation and variable blade tensioning in order to achieve maximum accuracy even in the most demanding materials. A full enclosure ensures maximum safety and a chip conveyor prevents a build up of swarf in the cutting area.
Need to prove the technology?
In order to showcase the benefits of the Sterling AX bandsaws, we are pleased to offer live demonstrations at our working showroom in Stafford. Please get in touch to arrange a visit; you can call us on 01785 336732, email us at sales@bisonmachinery.co.uk or just drop us a line via our contact form.
The model which we are currently featuring is the STC420 AX; more information about this machine can be found here.
