New to the showroom - Laser Welding Packages featuring IPG LightWELD

We are pleased to introduce the Morgan Rushworth Laser Welding Packages to the Bison showroom. Featuring the market leading LightWELD technology from IPG Photonics, this innovative solution is highly productive, easy to use and very safe. 

Laser welding is very fast - typically up to 4 times faster than TIG welding - and easy to learn; even inexperienced operators can produce consistent production-ready welding after only a few hours of practice. The Morgan Rushworth Laser Welding Packages include everything needed for start up and ongoing safe operation.

With the many benefits of laser welding these machines are fast becoming the must-have tool for sheet metal workshops worldwide.

So what are the main benefits of laser welding?

• Laser welding is an extremely fast process which produces high-penetration welds several times quicker than MIG or TIG welding
• Due to the highly concentrated heat source and lower heat input, laser welding produces a smaller heat affected zone and distorts material less than other methods
• Using the pre-weld cleaning function allows the removal of contaminants such as oil, grease and oxides from the surface without the use of abrasives or chemicals
• Similarly, post-weld cleaning quickly removes heat discoloration leaving visually appealing welds without the need of a secondary operation
• Very low training requirements makes it very easy to find operators who can quickly produce quality welds without previous experience
• Laser welding also has the ability to weld with or without filler material subject to the application

Is laser welding safe?

A laser welding machine is a Class 4 laser which requires appropriate safety measures to be in place in order to reduce risk to a Class 1 designation. This involves using the machine in a suitable enclosure including a door interlock switch which prevents use of the laser when open. The correct PPE must be worn including specialist welding goggles with laser safe glass. Advanced features of the IPG LightWELD models are part contact sensing and a multi action trigger.

What is a laser welding package?

A Morgan Rushworth laser welding package includes a full laser safe enclosure and all the required safety features and accessories needed to utilise the technology. The enclosure is fitted with laser safe glass and features a safety interlock switch to the door. Lighting and power is included with a single point power connection to the enclosure. Optional equipment can be added such as a wire feeder, a welding table and a local extraction system.
